How Greater Manchester Police Silenced the Truth

Here's what most people don't understand about political cover-ups:

They don't happen in dramatic midnight meetings with shadowy figures. They happen in broad daylight, through bureaucratic obstruction, carefully edited footage, and "limited" investigations that are designed to fail from the start.

On January 15th, 2024, I witnessed this playbook in action.

Maggie Oliver took the podium at Andy Burnham's press conference following his Rochdale grooming review. It was the latest instalment in a predictable pattern. Just like Manchester and Oldham before it, his "experts" had found zero evidence of a cover-up nor named a single person accountable.

I had the unedited footage of her statement - the one where Burnham's press team did not turn off her microphone on. In the raw clip, not the sanitised version Burnham's team distributed, Oliver revealed something stunning: Greater Manchester Police's legal team actively blocked survivors from giving evidence to the review.

Nobody caught this bombshell at the time.

It would take another 12 brutal months of pressure before the "King of the North" admitted his review had been "limited." By then, his handpicked investigators had already jumped ship.

People call me too adversarial. Too aggressive. Too uncompromising.

But here's the truth:

I've been this way from day one because I understood the game being played. The Labour Party needs this buried because it implicates their senior politicians. They must protect those who keep them in power.

Maggie Oliver spent over a decade trying to work within the system before reaching this same conclusion. She deserves enormous respect for trying the collaborative approach. Now she's pursuing private prosecutions because she's learned what I've known all along - collaboration with these people is a dead end.

I'm please that Maggie Oliver is now pursuing private prosecutions. But private prosecutions, on their own, will not get to the truth. For that we need a full, independent National Public Inquiry. This isn't just my opinion. It's the only path forward. These institutions cannot investigate themselves. Time after time, those implicated in covering up industrial-scale child abuse get to control the very investigations meant to expose them.

Look at Oldham Council right now: Tom Crowther KC's supposedly "Telford-style" framework has already had its independence gutted, with the Council deciding who does what. The Chief Executive of the Council he's negotiating with - Shelly Kipling - was a key member of Jim McMahon's Communication Team that are incriminated in the cover up.

Only a National Public Inquiry, truly independent, can break this cycle where politicians and officials implicated in protecting Pakistani Rape Clans continue marking their own homework. Before we can have justice, we must have truth. And only a Public Inquiry will deliver that truth.
