Oldham Councillors Secret Pay Rise Exposed

Oldham Council has decided to award councillors a record 10%+ pay rise. This means the lowest ranking councillors will receive an additional £1,290. No information has been released by Oldham Council as to how much AROOJ SHAH's allowance has increased by or what the total uplift is costing for all 60 councillors. As to why you should be concerned? Perhaps because the entire cost of these record breaking pay rises is funded through your Council Tax. Did some one say samosa?

Below is the link to the Council's own website that will confirm how AROOJ SHAH claimed over £50,000 in 'allowances' for the year 2023-24. It's hidden away on the Council website, so not easily found. Add up all the numbers, something you will have to do yourself, and you will see how AROOJ SHAH and her associates claimed over £1 million in ‘allowances’ in the year 2023-24.

No one should be surprised that Oldham Council awarding its councillors a record 10%+ pay rise fails to follow due process. Ordinarily, a so called 'independent' committee makes recommendations that are then voted on at a Council meeting. Perhaps people should contact their councillors and ask them why this 'independent' process has been abandoned?

Council Tax payers might also want to ask why Oldham Council's own website displays inaccurate financial information of what their councillors receive. Councillors do not receive a Basic Allowance of £8,950 as this link claims. Nor do they receive £10,922 as claimed in the actual page. The Basic Allowance now exceeds £12,000 a year. A record rise of over 30% since the Council last updated its own website. Anyone surprised at the state of the Council's finances when it can't even get this right?
