Sleepwalking into Sharia or Nothing to Fear?
If you have been following my work, you will know all about how Keir Starmer and his Muslim bloc vote dependent Labour Party are involved in a civil war with Islamist separatists from within their voter base. Join me later this evening when I explain to you what exactly brought us here, and what comes next.
I'm aiming for the live transmission to go out around 9.30pm over on my YouTube channel.
The Battle Over Free Speech Just Got More Complicated
Here's what everyone got wrong about Labour's latest move:
The Telegraph just dropped a bombshell. Angela Rayner's department isn't just planning to tackle Islamophobia - they're building an entire council around it. And their choice to lead it? None other than Dominic Grieve, the former Attorney-General whose Remainer credentials need no introduction.
But here's what makes this story fascinating:
The council isn't just another Whitehall committee. It's about to ignite one of the most contentious debates in British politics: the precise line between protecting religious communities and preserving free speech.
Let me break this down for you:
Labour wants to officially define anti-Muslim discrimination. Sounds straightforward, right? Except it's anything but. The working definition they're considering states that "Islamophobia is rooted in racism and is a type of racism that targets expressions of Muslimness or perceived Muslimness."
This is where things get messy.
Critics like Robert Jenrick, the shadow justice secretary, are already sounding alarm bells. Their fear? This definition could become a "Trojan horse for a blasphemy law protecting Islam." Even Grieve himself admits defining Islamophobia is "extremely difficult for perfectly valid reasons relating to freedom of expression."
The timing couldn't be more controversial.
Just yesterday, a 47-year-old pleaded guilty to religious harassment for burning a Quran in Manchester city centre. This follows a string of high-profile incidents: a Batley teacher forced into hiding for showing Muhammad caricatures, four students suspended in West Yorkshire over a damaged Quran.
But here's the real kicker:
The proposed council includes figures like Qari Asim—the same Leeds imam the Tories dismissed in 2022 for supporting a ban on "The Lady of Heaven," a film about Mohammed's daughter. It's precisely the sort of detail that has free speech advocates deeply worried.
The brutal truth?
Labour's walking into the same minefield that stopped Theresa May's government from adopting this definition in 2019. When Labour MP Tahir Ali recently demanded measures to prohibit religious text "desecration," it took the government three weeks to definitively rule out new blasphemy laws. Yet just a few months later, here we now are.
Here's what most people miss:
The UK already has robust laws against faith-based hate crimes and religious discrimination. Creating new definitions and councils doesn't necessarily solve existing problems - it creates new ones.
The question now isn't whether Labour will press ahead - they will. The question also isn't whether they can craft a definition that satisfies both religious communities and free speech advocates. Given the track record, they might find that an impossible circle to square. Maybe, it isn't even something that they want to square.
The real question is why are they doing this? Just as with the trading of the safety of little children to the grooming gangs to secure the bloc vote, could what now be taking place just the latest surrender in Labour's desperate attempts to maintain power no matter the cost?
